Dear Dadai, You know what a flute is. It is a musical instrument which when played may generate beautiful tunes and sometimes mesmerize the listeners. In our ancient Indian language, Sanskrit, from where your mother tongue Bengali was derived, the flute is called Benu. There is a marked different though. Flutes in Western Countries are mostly metallic. But here in India it is generally made processing fine Bamboo Sticks.So sounds are different and Bamboo flutes are more melodious. It has the same mesmerizing power, if not more. Afterwards, many a Bengali poets and novelist adopted the word Benu and used it in their writings.Benu is also named Banshi in colloquial Bengali. I am about to introduce you to one Lady who was named Benu. Trust me, the name was very appropriate. She could spend a very short span of active life among her own people but she created tunes even during her toughest times. Those tunes we still cherish and remember her through them. ১৯৫৬ সাল।আমি ক্লাস থ্রী তে উঠে গিয়ে নিজেকে বেশ বড় মনে করছি।আমাদের কালীঘাটের বাড়ীতে একজন সৌম্য দর্শন ভদ্রলোক এলেন বাবার কাছে। বাবা, মা এবং দাদার সাথে আলাপ করালেন । বাবা ওঁদের বাড়ী র গৃহ চিকিৎসক । ওঁকে দেখেই দিদি আর আমরা যারা দিদির বিশেষ অনুগত ভাই এবং ছোড়দি ছাদের সিঁড়ি র বাঁকে আত্মগোপন করেছি । দিদির তেমনি নির্দেশ । দিদি মাঝে মাঝেই উঁকি দিচ্ছিল নীচে। উদ্দেশ্য কি কথা বার্তা হচ্ছে তাঁর হদিশ করা। আমরা সাত হাত জলে। এবার দাদা উপরে এলেন দিদি কে নিয়ে যেতে। দিদি অরুণ বর্ণ মুখে মাথা নীচু করে দাদার সঙ্গে বাবার ঘরে ঢুকে গেল। থ্রী র আমি আর ফাইভের সোনাদা কিছু না বুঝে মুখ চাওয়া চাওয়ি করছি । ছোড়দি কিন্ত সিঁড়ি দিয়ে নেমে বাবার ঘরের বাইরে দাঁড়িয়েছে । সে ও থ্রী , কিন্ত মহিলা তো ! ঔৎসুক্য অনেক বেশী। ছোড়দি ই এসে খবর দিল যে দিদির বিয়ে ঠিক হয়েছে । যিনি এসেছেন তিনি পাত্রের বড়দাদা , নাম শ্রী চিত্ত রঞ্জন ভট্টাচার্য । তারপর থেকেই হুল্লোড়ের শুরু। দিদির প্রাত্যহিক কাজকর্ম যার বেশীর ভাগটাই আমাদের নিয়ে, তাতে ভাঁটা পড়ে গেল। আমাদের স্কুলে যাবার সময় তৈরী করে দেওয়া, আমাদের হোম টাস্ক দেখে দেওয়া, আমাদের কবিতা আবৃত্তি
